Google and YouTube Delegates in Pakistan

Google Logo Pakistan
Pakistan is on the threshold of technology and though it has only 10% technology penetration, there is a strong platform for growth and investments. This is what Google and YouTube delegates observed about the technology scene in Pakistan when they came here for the International Youth Conference. According to the delegates, the 62% of Pakistani youth are a huge asset for the nation if there is a proper channel to guide them for utilizing technology to benefit their own future as well as that of the nation.

The average Pakistani spends just $3/month on mobile communication and around $13/month on broadband facilities. This shows that there is a potential for technological growth in Pakistan, as the local media industry is enhancing the use of online sites like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to promote as well as run businesses. The youth here now watches shows/dramas/music on YouTube rather than sitting and watching on the TV screen.

The Pakistani media is booming, within just 8 years of media freedom in Pakistan. Private channels are numerous and these channels are integrating the use of technology with their service and business strategies. There is an increasing rate of data download and uploads and most importantly the growth of freelancers who are working endlessly on outsourcing projects.Online job providers such as Elance and Freelancer.com have Pakistanis as amongst their highest subscribers and job providers.

The Google delegates did not only superficially analyze Pakistan’s technological development, but also conducted interviews with ministers and leaders to discuss about the future of Pakistan’s technological development.

SmS is an Amazing Technology

The Mobile Data Association (MDA) today announced that 4,825 billion messages were sent during September 2007, an average of over 1,2 billion messages every week, staggeringly, the same number of messages sent during the whole of 1999.

The Mobile Data Association (MDA) has today announced its latest quarterly UK research into mobile phone text volumes. The figures show that 4,825 billion messages were sent during September 2007, an average of over 1,2 billion messages every week, staggeringly, the same number of messages sent during the whole of 1999. The research shows a 25% growth compared to 2006 and has caused the MDA to revise it annual predicted total figure from 48bn to 52bn messages in 2007. Mobile texting continues to go through the roof, what’s driving it, why the obsession? Mike Short, Chairman of the Mobile Data Association, looks at some of the facts:
Bundled or packaged monthly deals from mobile operators have meant that all customers are getting a deal to suit their own mobile usage needs
UK businesses have woken up to the potential of SMS. We have seen a significant increase in companies communicating with customers and employees via SMS
In an industry plagued by complexity and compatibility issues, text messaging is simple and effective technology that works on every phone, at home or abroad.
All levels of society (young & old) continue to embrace texting
Texting continues to play a central part in our daily work and private lives
The cost of a text message continues to fall as a result of increased competition
It’s a very personal way to communicate

Chairman’s approved quotes:

Mike Short, Chairman, The Mobile Data Association, said:

Quote – Growth of text
“The continued growth of text volumes remains a source of fascination for us all at the MDA. We have been central in helping to promote the technology from our initial campaigns back in 1998. Today text messaging remains important but as part of a much larger and more complex mobile communications industry. From mobile TV, mobile advertising and marketing to internet browsing and music and content creation, the mobile device continues to extend its reach into increasing parts of all our lives.”

Quote – What next for mobile data
“The UK text volumes show no real signs of abating and the UK sits within the top six of the Global league of countries sending text messages. While the trend towards operators offering ‘all-you-can-eat’ tariffs increases, this will act as a catalyst for consumer’s passion for all things mobile.”

How the September statistics breakdown:
4,825,000,000 per month
1,200,000,000 per week
173,000,000 per day
14,400,000 per hour (based upon most texts being sent in 12 hour period)
239,000 per minute
4,000 every second
70 text messages per person per month in the UK*

Ostendo Now Selling CRVD Display Directly

CRVD display directly 1
We first saw Ostendo’s crazy CRVD monitor at CES 2008 with Alienware branding, and then again at Macworld 2009 with an NEC label, but it looks like those were just flirtations: the monster 2880 x 900 quad-DLP display has been quietly on sale directly from the mothership since late August. Ostendo tell us most of the units sold have been for defense simulation and training, but there are apparently some gamers out there hardcore enough to stomach the $6,499 price tag — including the crown prince of Dubai, who’s purchased “multiple units.” We’re also told that multi-monitor CRVD applications are forthcoming, which sounds insane — and is even wilder on video. Check it after the break.

PS SQUARE !

Concept design can sometimes take the form of futuristic technologies not yet stumbled upon.  Usually they are odd and deal with features that we normally don’t use at all.  However, sometimes there are concept designs that strike you to the point that you would be prepared to put your life at stake just to be able to get one in real life.  It doesn’t happen often, if at all, but when that does happen, your whole look on the smart mobile device genre is changed and pivoted forever.  We recently saw what Apple had in store for us with their all new iPad 2.  It’s a truly magnificent machine if I may say so.  The features are just awesome, and the package is even sleeker than the original one.   It’s a Sony concept design machine that bundles up a smartphone and a hand held console with the cool features of a tablet.

Technology innovation concepts PS SQUARE

PS Square supports induction charging, Bluetooth, possibly 3G and it embeds a microSD card slot. A QWERTY keyboard and a large (probably OLED) screen are incorporated and the device can connect to the PC and TV with ease, via wireless.  The same concept portable device supports social networking, gaming (as shown by the directional pad) and even school work, if you have time for that. Action keys are present as well and an eReader should be on board, too. It’s hard for me to see teenagers doing homework on this device, since I personally would be tempted to socialize and play games on it, but it’s an incredibly cool gadget, to be honest.

iPhone Dock with Photograph Printer!

The iPhone dock/case prints photos just like a Polaroid. A QR code and geo tagged map can also be printed to link it to a digital version somewhere on the web like Flickr. This is a much better evolution of Polaroid technology. A certain company should take notice.  Clever and simple.
